The strategy for enabling pedestrian movement needs to be so much more comprehensive and ambitious. Every junction in an urban or suburban environment should have a pedestrian priority crossing, together with multiple crossings on major thoroughfares. This can be done with introduction of 'simple' zebra crossings, i.e. absent belisha beacons, similar to every continental European country. A simple change to legislation together with a national implementation plan and information campaign, together with their universal introduction, would completely change the pedestrian experience in Ireland, and reinforce once and for all the priority of VRUs over motor traffic. I implore you to get this right as the time to implement this change is when footpath design and civil engineering works are happening as part of your strategy.
