14. Traffic Management & Traffic Options

As a resident of Fortfield Park, I object to the planned removal of on-street parking.

There is no evidence that this would improve bus times except for short period during school drop offs.

The strategy refers to parking as encouraging private car use over other forms of transport but this is a residential location and out of town so removal of on-street parking will not have any such impact i.e. reduction of private car usage.

There is a significant foot fall of children attending the 3 schools (St. Pius primary, Terenure College, Our Lady's) and removal of on-street parking will increase both traffic and speeds and make this less safe route and crossing for a significant number of children which directly against a key objective of the strategy.  If this was allowed then Parents would be less inclined to allow children to walk to school and increase drop off congestion.

It is naive to think that parents with very young children attending st piux primary will obey parking restrictions imposed and highly likely that this will simply encourage illegal parking during these times negating any supposed benefit for bus traffic and further increasing risk to children travelling to and from school.

In summary these proposed changes are most unlikely to bring any bus time benefit, will make the path to school more high risk due to increased traffic speeds, will see no reduction in use of private cars by residents.
