The National Transport Authority (NTA) is proposing a new bus route from Longford via Roosky and Carrigallen to Cavan and wants to hear your views. This new route is arising from a recent license amendment to Expressway route 23 which removed Roosky and Dromod from the alignment. It is proposed that the new route will operate from Longford via Cloondara, Termonbarry, Roosky, Dromod, Mohill, Carrigallen, Killeshandra and Crossdoney to Cavan. It is planned to provide a minimum of 3-4 services per day per direction, 7 days a week, with morning and evening peak services timed in the direction to/from Cavan.
The proposed bus route will be integrated into the TFI Go app and will participate in the Leap Card scheme, facilitating easier journey planning and cashless payments for passengers. Additionally, Free Travel Passes will be accepted on the route.
We will also investigate the possibility of serving this corridor with accessible, modern vehicles and will work closely with Local Authorities to improve the stop infrastructure.
We plan to implement our proposal during 2026 but achieving this will be subject to the availability of the necessary additional funding and resources.
The purpose of the consultation is to collect feedback from the public, which will then be used to improve the service proposal for this corridor.
We encourage you to share your views on how these proposed changes could impact your journey experience.
Details of Proposal:
Our objective is to provide a regular public transport service to the settlements of Carrigallen, Roosky and Cloondara. The purpose is to provide the following:
