As part of our ongoing service monitoring and review process, the National Transport Authority (NTA) is carrying out a review of Clonmel Town Bus Service. We would like to hear your opinions on how we could improve bus services in the town.
Background
Clonmel Town Bus Service launched in December 2023 and is operated by TFI Local Link Tipperary. At present, the network consists of three bus routes: CL1, CL2 and CL9.
Route CL1 operates between Poppyfield Retail Park and Crann Ard, while Route CL2 operates between Ard Gaoithe Business Park and Crann Ard. Together, CL1 and CL2 run for over 16 hours a day, Monday to Saturday, with slightly shorter operating hours on Sundays.
Buses on routes CL1 and CL2 operate every 60 minutes. CL1 and CL2 overlap between Queen Street and Crann Ard, providing a 30-minute frequency for this section of the route, including at O’Connell Street.
Route CL9 operates between Ard Gaoithe Business Park and Crann Ard, via Poppyfield Retail Park. The service operates twice daily to provide an early morning and late evening service.
As well as delivering local trips within the town, Clonmel Town Bus Service facilitates onward travel to key destinations including Kilkenny, Dublin City and Dublin Airport, and provides improved connectivity to the wider Transport for Ireland (TFI) network.
Clonmel Town Bus Service is complemented by Route 356 which runs between Clonmel and Ballinroad via Dungarvan, and is operated by TFI Local Link Waterford. Route 356 provides service to Marlfield, Clonmel Train Station and Oldbridge, operating eight return trips per day, Monday to Sunday. Route 356 between Marlfield and Oldbridge is included in the 90-minute fare structure, allowing for a free interchange with Clonmel Town Bus Service.
